The edition

A new, complete translation

From the original French, following the Hetzel edition, Paris 1875. No paragraph has been shortened and no detail left out, and Verne’s footnotes are in place.

Every illustration of the first edition

Jules Férat’s 149 illustrations, engraved by Barbant, were scanned from a copy of the illustrated edition and cleaned one by one. Each stands on its own page, where Verne’s publisher placed it.

Checked terminology

The terms of seafaring, chemistry and medicine, and the names of animals and plants, were checked against the terminology database of the Academy of the Hebrew Language.
